[Hidden-tech] Blocking robocalls on Android

My firm has been so busy for so long, and our clients communicate 97% of the time via email or project management system, that our firm has had our VOIP line ringer off for well over a year. It seems that, at least with VOIP (as opposed to old landline over telephone poles), never answering reduced such calls to ~2 a day. I've been planning to leave on our outgoing message something to the tune that we never answer unless known caller ID because of the spam call problem, and that we will listen to messages and get back to you within 24 hours. I also plan to give key clients a special "bat line" for emergencies. It's a drag to have to do that, but such is one of the many costs when not having a government "of the people, by the people, for the people."

Thanks for helping to answer Marcia’s question – which seemed to be cell-phone specific. My challenge is the overwhelming number of robocalls and live calls to my desk phone (way more than my house phone gets or my cell phone). Yes, I still have more than just my cell phone <grin>. My desk (office) phone is tied to Vonage, if that makes a difference.

I know steps are being taken to lessen the number of calls we consumers receive, but it’s just taking a very long time. And for every “stop,” these folks find a new way to bug the heck out of us.

Any ideas? Caller ID does help, but enough is enough.

Thanks,

Karen

Thanks for this recommendation, Scott! I, too, have an android and will be looking into it. I use Mr Number, but it's hit/miss sometimes and lately some of these numbers that pop up (I don't answer the phone) don't even exist when I make attempts to call back from my work phone to see who it was. Literally, I get a recording telling me that the number is either not in service, or no longer in service.

That technique doesn't work with the calls I get as every time the same people/company call with a different phone number. Blocking does no good at all.
