Not sure if this is the way to post or not. Please let me know how to post if not. I'm a board member and lessee of the Valley Community Land Trust, a small residential and conservation land trust in Franklin County, MA --http://vclt.org/ . Our web site is currently hosted by Wild Apricot, a platform oriented towards non-profit membership organizations. It's strength is membership management, with auto processing features that would be valuable for an organization with many members. We have only a half dozen or so paid members, and so member management can be done manually with little effort. We'd like to get the vclt.org site on a less costly platform (WA is $40/month $432/yr). I've started the job, adapting to a Wordpress platform. I have some web experience, having built the site for my livelihood-producing woodworking business, and for the Crafts of Colrain -- http://craftsofcolrain.com/ (yearly open studio event) , which I'm a member of. I built and maintain these with Expression Web. I thought for the new vclt.org platform Wordpress might be easiest to let others takeover down the road, and I might even be able to adapt membership management plugins so we'd not lose any functionality from the Wild Apricot platform, but manual membership management would be fine for at least a few years . We do need to password protect some content to members only, and allow public access to the rest. Wordpress seems to allow this easily. I'd like confirmation of my plan for building here: http://stage.alladd.com/wp/ , on a "stage" appended to my woodworking site, and then relabeling when ready to make the change. The different url structure of Wordpress vs. a more conventional structure as built with Expression Web , and Wild Apricots more drag and drop build platform leave me uncertain I can easily convert the stage site to a live one, and so I want to be sure I'm on the right path before I go too far. Any wisdom form the experience of this community would be much appreciated! Thanks!
