Hi Elyssa, Different programs best handle different types of duplicate files on the Mac. A "one-and-done" approach can lead to undesired consequences, so I would proceed carefully and make sure everything is backed up, even if the intention is to keep one copy of everything. - Documents are handled well with Decloner and/or ChronoSync - Photos Library: use PowerPhotos - iTunes: use Dupin There are other file types and data sets that have different best practices, or are best handled on a case by case basis.
