RE: Welcome Home Northampton Fundraiser at CLICK Workspace

January 12, 2018; In conjunction with this January’s Northampton Arts Night
Out, CLICK Workspace will be hosting a fundraiser in honor of Welcome Home
Northampton, an organization that strives to resettle refugees in the
Northampton area.

Welcome Home Northampton began as a coalition of concerned organizations
and citizens of the area. In partnership with the City of Northampton,
Catholic Charities Agency, they have brought to fruition the City’s
expressed intention to welcome 51 refugees. This organization strives to
assist refugees in creating and adjusting to their new lives, including
providing reception and placement services, locating and approving housing
situations, helping gain access to benefits, teaching English, Cultural
Orientation, and identifying employment opportunities.

This event features the work of Marguerite Belkin, an Easthampton based
paper sculptor, whose paper sculptures are a part of a group show entitled
“Rock, Paper, Scissors” that opened at CLICK Workspace in November, 2017.
This group exhibit is comprised of sculptors Richard Rice (“rock”),
Marguerite Belkin (“paper”), and Gregory Kline (“scissors”).

Marguerite Belkin’s contribution to the exhibit, a 700 piece installation
titled “im·Migration”, is the basis of the fundraising event. “im·Migration”
shows three different animal migratory patterns (monarch butterflies,
schools of fish, flock of Canadian geese) which serve as a metaphor for the
struggles of people seeking sanctuary in different parts of the world. The
paper sculptures will be available to take home as individual pieces or in
groupings, in exchange for donations that will be passed along to Welcome
Home Northampton to support its local refugee relocation efforts.

A representative of Welcome Home Northampton and new community members will
be in attendance. Come by and meet them and help us welcome them to the
community! This event will be held at CLICK Workspace (9 ½ Market Street,
Northampton) on January 12th from 6 to 8pm. More information can be found
at www.clickworkspace.org.
