Hi Gordon, This happens and like Rich said, it's not usually an easy fix. There are helpful search and replace tools for WordPress such as https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/ BUT it must be used with precision or it can make matters much, much worse.
