Hi Shel - yes, that's a feature of WordPress. If there are any posts you 
don't want to show but you don't want to lose them, you can install  a 
plugin such as Archived Post Status (search for it in the Add Plugins or 
you can download it here 
https://wordpress.org/plugins/archived-post-status/) that allows you to 
set a post as archived - once set, it won't appear in the loop.
