We've been EU and UK about once a year for the last few years, and also have traveling family. Personally, I'd be surprised if the ban happens, however I also believe in thinking ahead. Since wifi is so common now, the Internet cafe is a pretty rare thing, although most hotels have business centers. I'd go with a throw-away tablet -- there are some pretty cheap ones. To be safe packing it, turn it off - not just put it to sleep, also it's likely they will not be as limited as laptops, if any ban does take place. OR you could buy a cheap laptop, pre-load it and ship it to your first hotel to hold for you. Just another idea.
