One other thought:

Most/all *Linux* systems can have a package called Poppler, which is a PDF
rendering library (a fork of the xpdf PDF viewer developed by Derek Noonburg
of Glyph and Cog, LLC.). Included as part of Poppler are a collection of
command line utilities, including pdftohtml and pdftotext. Assuming that the
PDF contains the actual text, either of these utilities can extract it. It is
my understanding the MS-Word is capable of importing HTML (I don't know for
sure -- I don't use MS-Word). I don't know if Poppler is available for
MS-Winodws. It *might* be available for MacOSX, but I don't know that either.
