Hi all; I'm going to have to second Alexandra's suggestion. My wife just finished a medical degree at HCC and most of the software required wasn't guaranteed to run on anything but iPads. A lot of the books/software are exclusively on Apple. The school did not recommend anything other than iPads, and even included it in the course at an extra cost if you decided not to get your own. STCC and a few other colleges she applied to also mandated iPads for the same course. In fact I'd be surprised if they even allow anything but iPads. What we did is we went to Apple's website and purchased a refurbished iPad that was 1 model newer than their minimum requirement (the refurbished units are kind of hidden and buried) and apple-care with it; we also purchased an otter-box for it from Amazon. The iPad never saw unprotected use, and the whole package combined cost us 1/2 the price of the newest one on the market. Best part about it, now that she's done, it was wipped completely clean and resold for the original purchase price. We kept all the boxes and everything mint with that intention. They do hold very good value. And just for information, I'm a pretty big anti-apple person.... Now for a tablet for everyday use.... that's a different subject.
