I did this and it the performance boost was phenomenal - replaced my optical (CD) drive in my macbook pro with another hard drive bay. I have a 250G SSD drive that runs my system and my apps, and a 1T hard drive with my data. Performance is phenomenal, price was minimal, storage is enormous.
