Hi Christine, Generally you get that message with a USB device. I've never see it with a DisplayPort adapter, although it could happen if a Thunderbolt adapter is used when the port is DisplayPort only (they have the same connection). If you plug in the laptop to AC power, the message may go away. Another possibility would be the device itself. Can you give us a link to the adapter you're using? best, Zach -- *Zach Fried* *Local Prosperity Partners, LLC* *Technology* <http://localprosper.com/services/mac-pc-support-repair/>* • * *Design* <http://localprosper.com/services/design/>* • **Skills* <http://localprosper.com/services/skills-training/>* • **Strategy* <http://localprosper.com/why/> PO Box 1232 Amherst, MA 01004 zach at localprosper.com Office: (413) 461-0617 On Tue, Jan 5, 2016 at 6:37 PM, Chris Hart <chris at chrishart.net> wrote: > > > > > > I'm guessing the adapter you used was drawing too much power from either the Mini Display Port or the USB port. > > If the adapter came with a power adapter, make sure you use it. > > Also make sure that you have no other USB devices connected at the same time. > > If none of that works, then I would suggest using an Mini DisplayPort > HDMI adapter or cable, that doesn't incorporate audio. I have the HDMI cable and am using it with a Roku box. But I want to connect my MacBook to a tv at a friend’s house without Roku, Apple TV, or a Netflix account. > > My first attempt was to purchase a Mini DisplayPort+Toslink Audio to HDMI Adapter. The setup worked for a few minutes, then an error message appeared on the computer screen indicating that I should turn off the device using too much power. I don’t understand that message. > > Is there a solution to this problem? > > Thank you in advance for your help, as always. > > Chris > > Christine Polaczak > chris at cpdesignworks.com > 413 539-3582 > > > > > _______________________________________________ > Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net > Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net > > You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. > If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members > page on the Hidden Tech Web site. > http://www.hidden-tech.net/members > > > > _______________________________________________ > Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net > Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net > > You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. > If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members > page on the Hidden Tech Web site. > http://www.hidden-tech.net/members -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
