All it takes to fail satellite is being on the *wrong* (read north) side of a
heavily forested hill. Merely being on the north side of a heavily forested
hill totally prevents satellite from working. Trees + Hill == NO satellite.
Trees alone won't stop the satellite (but can cause some problems) and a hill
alone won't stop the satellite (but can also cause problems), but the combo is
a killer, even if 1 mile down the road has "great" satellite reception. The
actual satellite is in geosyncronous orbit over the equator. For New England,
that puts the satellite somewhere "low" on the southern horizon (actually
southwestern horizon). The key here is "low" on the horizon if the bulk of the
hill is there AND has lots of trees on it, you are dead in the water.

Verizon is NOT selling *new* DSL accounts. If you don't already have DSL, you
can't sign up for it, even if you are right next door to the CO. It is *dead*
tech. ALL of the DSL tech is EOL.

Good luck finding a "co-operative ISP". Dialup ISPs are fading into the
woodwork (yes they still exist, but are very low-end).
