[Hidden-tech] Internet connection mystery

Hi Wizards,
Part 1:  Here's the summary: My ASUS laptop easily connects to the internet wirelessly in most places EXCEPT for in my house. Network info shows PC is connected to the SSID but there is an "X"  between the server and "Internet"
Anomolies: my other PC connects & tablet easily connect and stay connected.Other folks' computers- PC & Mac connect easilyThis computer works in other places: both private- hotel, friends houses, Panera
I've had this looked at by several pros. I've moved the computer close to the router, have bought an extender. Changed browsers.  I have NOT hooked up with a wired connection
Part 2: Today, at a friends house, the computer partially connects!! Some sites (Gmail, yahoo, google search, dropbox) come up fast...when I want to go to a link for example from google search I get" REQUEST Timeout: server timed out while waiting for browser's request" or "NO DATA RECEIVED err_empty_response" 

 Trying to connect directly to a site (NFL.com)  brings "This Webpage not available; err_connection_reset
At this connection, sharing window shows pc connection to ssid connect to internet
Any ideas? directions? help? I am at loss.
