Diana, Definitely give a try to the software fixes Chris mentioned. He is also right that typically replacing the internal card is way more expensive than just buying a small USB card. That said it can absolutely be done. If you are running 10.10 or 10.11 they also had some issues with a few of those usb cards so be careful to research what you're getting.
