[Hidden-tech] MS Access Questions

Hi Adrienne,

A quick look at the PR sites for Access 2016 indicate no issues with
backwards compatibility.

Everything *should* continue smoothly but I would definitely run through
a test on a backup copy. I don't know much about their cloud offerings
but as long as Access runs as a locally installed app, your current
system should work as expected.

If you're concerned about forward compatibility, Microsoft SQL Server is
the logical upgrade path to upgrade the data half of the split MDBs.
There *are* quirks that will need development attention but a majority
of the GUI should be able to remain as-is. This opens you up to cloud
hosting options in the future, and other flexible front-end options.

I know that HIPAA compliance policies for email hosts are practically
useless. With research and careful attention to security you may find it
easier to maintain compliance for cloud-hosted data as well.

Best of luck.
