[Hidden-tech] Institutional / Commercial Wireless Router

Lyle,

If Ethernet wiring already is running through the environment, I would get
a SonicWall or Fortinet. Fortinets have WAP attachments that you can place
anywhere in an environment as long as there is an ethernet jack and they
are PoE (Power over Ethernet) as well so you don’t need to plug them in.

SonicWall:

Fortinet example:

Fortinet WAP attachments to place wireless across an environment:

These devices also run Firewall services depending on what additional
network protection you are looking for. And please note that using most of
these is best with a static IP from your ISP. So many local businesses
double NAT from the Modem to their router because they don’t want to spend
a few extra dollars a month on a static address. If you move to Comcast,
get a static IP when you do, your network will thank you.

Repeaters are notorious for being garbage, especially with lots of other
things interfering with the signal. “Budget conscious” is what is going to
get you. You can’t skimp in an environment like you are describing, your
tech support will ultimately pay for any half measures to save money. Your
plans for future proofing will also not happen if it’s skimped on in the
beginning. I would look at your options and present it all based on what is
best for the company long term. Too many places cut corners and end up
taking a bath on the never ending support that comes with it.

Good luck!
