A friend of mine is part of group that's starting a not-for-profit in
Western Mass. They need someone who can help them out with the web site and
related database back end, that the public would interact with.

Here's how she describes the project and their need:

For the past few months I have been working on a non-profit business idea
with several others to fund charities through the use of monies from low
balance and unwanted gift cards and I'm wondering if you can help me
determine the technological feasibility of our endeavor, as that is our main
roadblock right now. Wondering if you might know of anyone in computer
programming/IT who you think might have some insight there?

About five of us have been meeting about every 6 weeks in trying to get this
off the ground. We secured the domain name of www.GiftMyCard.org. I quickly
put together some rudimentary Web pages there, which gives you the basic
concept of the idea.

Through our research, no one has succeeded in doing something like this,
funding charities with gift card money, and we're wondering if it's
possible, if the creators of gift cards won't talk to us, as they aren't
being cooperative. Don't want to be held responsible for taking money from
their retailers is our guess for being tight-lipped.

We are staying positive. I was taught, where there's a will, there's a way
and I WANT to see this happen. Once we determine that it IS feasible, I will
be getting a board together to make it happen.

Think you can help? Contact: Layla O'Shea at laylaoshea at charter.net
