[Hidden-tech] Registering an app

I, too, am not a lawyer. What I know of IP law, however, suggests that your
friend _really_ needs to talk with an attorney in the field, particularly
if there's a need for international trademark protection. There's a
possibility that the attorney would provide a consultation service after
which you could handle the filings with the Copyright Office and USPTO
(and/or WIPO).
While the chances of him needing to bring an infringement suit are small,
there's a very good chance that both of you could spend a lot of time and
money in the process of obtaining limited legal protection in litigation.
The attorney would also be able to provide advice on monitoring usage of
the content so that your client could know about incidents of infringement
worldwide.
If your client is this worried about protection, it is, in my non-lawyer's
opinion, cheap money to hire someone with direct, professional experience
in this matter.
