Can anyone walk me through how concerned I should be? There are Chinese domain registars (or domain brokers) looking to score a pile of dead presidents from random US companies. They do a search for domains of the form <mumble>.com (or other TLDs) and than seek to sell you <mumble>.co.cn or something. (Actually GoDaddy does this also, *suggesting* that you buy <mumble>.info and <mumble>.us and <mumble>.biz, etc. GoDaddy merely *suggests* though.) Buying these alternitive TLDs is only really worthwhile if you are a big international player (like Coca Cola or Pepsi or Toyota). For a small operation, it is not really worth it. The only downside of NOT buying these domains is that some Chinese outfit can register bakepedia.co.cn and run a blog with fortune cookie recipes on it (in Chinese) or something like that. Unless you have some reason to want to penetrate the Chinese baking world, I would not bother. Buying the offered domain names means a big payday (remember a 'few' of our dollars is a lot of money over there) for the registar or broker and buys you very little. > > THANKS > > Dédé Wilson > Founder | Bakepedia - The Baker's Resource ® > dede at bakepedia.com > www.bakepedia.com > > > > MIME-Version: 1.0 > > _______________________________________________ > Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net > Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net > > You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. > If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members > page on the Hidden Tech Web site. > http://www.hidden-tech.net/members > > -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 Deepwoods Software -- Custom Software Services http://www.deepsoft.com/ -- Linux Administration Services heller at deepsoft.com -- Webhosting Services
