Gary, My advice is open up the enclosure and pull the physical hard drive out from inside and put it in a new box. It sounds like the enclosure may be malfunctioning. If it is a full size desktop hard drive I recommend these enclosures: http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NST-300S2-BK-3-5-Inch-External-Enclosure/dp/B0015LURY2 /ref=sr_1_3<http://www.amazon.com/Macally-G-S350SU-Hi-Speed-External-Enclosure/dp/B0013LRLUM/ref=sr_1_3> http://www.amazon.com/Macally-G-S350SU-Hi-Speed-External-Enclosure/dp/B0013LRLUM/ref=sr_1_3 ------------------------------- If the drive is a 2.5" drive ...or you want something that can do both, i recommend this nifty device: http://www.amazon.com/Anker®-Uspeed-Converter-Adapter-included/dp/B005B3VO24/ref=sr_1_3 Little adapter that just clips to the top of the hard drive, connects to a computer. With optional power cable for desktop hard drives. ....or bring it to a local tech shop that has things like this and have them transfer the files for you.
