I dropped DirecTV a bit more than a year ago when no one watched it anymore. I have 2 Roku players to connect wifi to our HDTVs, along with Netflix and Amazon Prime (but hardly watch Prime, since Netflix is dramatically better). I have also purchased a PC-only software application called PlayLater (records) and PlayOn (streams) and was up and running in 5 minutes through my Roku. It plays/records shows over the web for NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, PBS, Hulu (free version has a lot of shows), SyFy, etc., with more coming all of the time. At the time, it was a $40 lifetime license and it just plain works.
