Thanks to you all for your usual bright and prompt replies. I'm all set for the immediate crisis, having dropped my small stash of 1990s Northern India stereo field recordings over at my old friend Peter Acker (on this list) at Armadillo Audio Group's Amherst studio. Great space, good rooms, sweet gear, so Peter's going to be able to get me through this time-crunch. I haven't listened to most of these unique field recordings for more than a decade, and my plan is to be integrating some ambient/street sounds into a sacred chant record I'm finishing over at Amherst's Northfire Recording (another great local studio for more full-band kind of stuff). Peter's eyes lit up as we fired up the first DAT of ambient festival sounds from India's incomparable Khumba Mela in 1998--as a long-time binaural stereo nature and field recording engineer himself, Peter knows a weird and funky stereophonic soundstage when he hears it... My thanks to all of you for your solid suggestions, and for Peter for reaching out and sliding me into the transfer queue within hours of my need.
