[Hidden-tech] Old Word question

Hi Dede
I see that you have already received several good suggestions about saving your old word files from people who know much more about word than I do. The only thing I would add is a recommendation that, since you don't know when/how you will want to use or alter the files, you save them into more than one format.
I would, first of all, print them to acrobat and enable illustrator editing capabilities. (Actually, I would distill them to postscript and then print them to .pdf, but most people just print directly to .pdf.) Acrobat has the ability to export to several other formats, among other handy features. So, in the future, if you are able to open the files with acrobat you will have all of acrobat's options for editing, out-putting and/or re-saving. Acrobat will also allow you to combine smaller files into one big one, which might make it easier to convert them to other formats. (You will need a full version of acrobat to do this. If you don't have acrobat, you can get it on the cloud for a month at a time and cancel the subscription when you're done. I'd be happy to convert a small test file for you so you can see if it will work.)
Then I would export from the original word files to .txt and, depending on your results from acrobat, maybe one other format. This probably gets time-consuming (even with short cuts) but you don't have to do it all at once.
Lastly, I would archive all these versions, including the originals, in several places. Be sure to back up your fonts too.

Not knowing what your book is like, if there are any graphics or photos I would, if possible, save them as individual (i.e., un-embedded files), in whatever their original format is.

	Good luck
	Lynne

Seems silly....do I go through all those all files and do a Save As to update them? There are a lot of them. Is there any other way to do this en masse?
