Hi Deborah, 

Macbook Pros had/have Firewire 800.

shows the port on the newer models, but it's also on the Core2Duo based
MBPros as well. 

Firewire 800 to 400 -- 9 to 4 pin is for transferring from a DV Camera.

It's an Inexpensive cable $5. If she can't wait for shipping because of
a project deadline, she's welcome to the one I have.
