[Hidden-tech] using unlocked, GSM Blackberry 8820 in Europe

Hi HT,

I bought a used, unlocked Blackberry 8820 to use in Europe.  It has WiFi
and uses a SIM card.  It was an ATT phone originally.

I would like to text so I tried to install Blackberry Messenger.  I get an
error saying my OS is not supported (v.4 point something).

Is there another SMS app I can download that will work?  It looks like
crunchSMS might work, if someone could share other SMS clients that are
great, I'd appreciate it.

It does not appear that Blackberry offers free support but rather refers
one back to the carrier.  It also appears that Blackberry may no longer
support the 8820.  Is there a way to check if the firmware is the most
current and if not, update it?
