Several of my acquaintances are on the planning group for a fairly large event (1000+ people) for which they are renting a theater-type hall in Concord, NH, that usually serves as a concert venue. More people might like to attend than there is space available, so they are exploring the possibility of offering a streaming video feed, so that individuals or groups would be able to view the event from remote locations. The management of the hall offers live video feeds for an up-charge ($800 range, I think); it's one of the standard services that they provide. They work with Comcast for transmission of the feed into the web. * Are the in-house services they're offering likely to be the sole available source, or is there any prospect of a competitive bid situation? * If there's no competitive option, is there any standard along the lines of "usual and customary charges" for such services that might provide a bargaining position? * Are there level-of-service questions? For instance, is there likely to be a limit to how many people could pick up the live feed without overloading the transmission process? (Several hundred viewers would be plausible; over a thousand is vaguely possible.) * Are there any other technical issues to consider when entering into a contract for this sort of service?
