[Hidden-tech] ipad email question (Neal Priestly)

While this can be done, often times when you reply, it'll show the message
as sent from lynne at gmail on behalf of lynne at verizon. This is far from
elegant. You could receive from gmail and then send through Verizon, which
will allow you to sync your Verizon inbox across devices, but then sent
messages would still be POP and thus stored locally. I believe gmail has a
feature to send from another mail server but it a) is not always
applicable, b) will sometimes anger spam filters, and c) if the email is
examined closely, you'll still see gmail in the header information.

Just checking on my understanding.. would a work around for Lynne be to
have all her email forward to a gmail account which she sets up with imap?

I could be mistaken but I don't believe Verizon supports IMAP. Many ISPs
opt out of this technology due to space constraints. However, I do agree it
is much better. Not only is it very useful now that we use multiple
devices, but it also cuts down on IT costs when you have to migrate to a
new system.

Hi Lynne-

One thing you might want to do if you're accessing the same email account
across multiple machines is to change to using the IMAP protocal to access
your email.

It's the only way to go! plus, if you're ever stuck using webmail, all your
info is right there as well. OTOH, I find imap retrieval slow on the iPad,
but then my inbox is absolutely huge which probably has something to do
with it.
