Here’s a perspective on the topic from another source (media and advertising) who has some experience in this area: “Yes, I have encountered this issue before. For many years I operated as a sole proprietor. During that time I carried a one million dollar personal liability policy to cover any issues arising while shooting in the field. Although it didn’t happen often, when clients requested it, I had my agent fax the certificate directly to the client. I know the rates have gone up over the years but a policy of this type is usually less than $1000 annually. As for the worker’s comp portion…that would generally not apply unless you had employees. Not sure what Mass. Law is on that one. Best bet is to call your agent to discuss the options in your state.” Best regards, Dan Whitford Pioneer Valley Technical Solutions From: hidden-discuss-bounces at lists.hidden-tech.net [mailto:hidden-discuss-bounces at lists.hidden-tech.net] On Behalf Of Marcia Yudkin Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2012 5:09 PM To: Hidden-Tech Tech; Tom Adams ~ Reelife Productions & Folktography Subject: Re: [Hidden-tech] certificate of insurance question Hi Tom, When faced with a situation like this, I have simply told the client I am self-insured. Then I ask, Can they waive this requirement? Every time the client found a solution, such as being able to have me covered under their policy or XXing that requirement out of the contract. Hi hidden techers, I just landed a big job but the client just emailed me the following: ~~~ "Your proposal looks very good. I am going to process the paperwork today. However, I will need a copy of your Certificate of Insurance showing General Liability and Workers' Compensation coverage. Can you have your insurance agency forward to me? Also, we will be sending you a Certification Letter that you will need to sign and mail back." ~~~ I am a sole proprietor, and in the 16 or so years of doing business, I haven't needed a "Certificate of Insurance showing General Liability and Workers' Compensation". Any tips on what my response should be or course of action I should take? thank you for any info... oh wise-technically-inclined-ones Regards, Tom Adams, Director/Owner Reelife Productions <http://www.ReelifeProductions.com> - using technology to educate, entertain & enlighten since 1996 Folktography by Tom <http://www.folktographybytom.com> - high quality photography and photo products Reelife Facebook Page <http://www.facebook.com/reelife> Reelife's Youtube Channel <http://www.youtube.com/reelife> Folktography's Facebook Page <http://www.facebook.com/folkography> <http://www.linkedin.com/in/tomadams2> Tom's LinkedIn Page <http://web.me.com/ReelifeProductions> Tom's "Links Directory" 413.575.9707 • Williamsburg, MA -----Inline Attachment Follows----- _______________________________________________ Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list.
