Right now WiredWest has to focus on it's member towns, most of which have no real broadband options. Once our network is built and operating in those towns, we can consider what we want to do in terms of further expansion. Our bylaws state that we can provide services in non-member towns, but as a matter of policy, we need to prioritize members. Towns like Sunderland have the advantage of population density (which is why Comcast is there and not, for example, in Wendell) but there is also competition, and you can bet that if WiredWest wired Sunderland, Comcast would drop it's prices in an attempt to make WW fail there. Another factor is that businesses, especially medium to large businesses, can really benefit from the higher bandwidth fiber can offer, and also from the fact that you can get upload speeds which are as high as download speeds (symmetrical bandwidth). So a town with a lot of businesses would be a good venture for WiredWest to consider. So you can see that it's a complex decision, and the answer to your question is maybe, it depends. We just don't know right now, and we probably won't even consider the question for another few years. -Reva From: Kiernan Gulick-Sherrill [mailto:greenearthcomputer at gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2012 10:04 PM To: Reva Reck Cc: Hidden-Tech Discussions Subject: Re: [Hidden-tech] Help Wired West Bring Broadband to your Community What is the current opinion and plan from wired west in regards to the towns that are already served by Comcast/Charter/verizon, but are limited to that corporate ownership as their only option? Will it be expanding to offer services in towns like Sunderland, etc?
