[Hidden-tech] Brother Printer Issues

Hi, 

Just in case someone on this list knows something that I can't find on the web...

I have a Brother HL-2070N. It's been a workhorse.  Now, it simply won't clear a red light flashing which is supposed to indicate a paper jam. I've done everything I can find: corona wire, taking it apart and looking for mechanical difficulties, resetting empty toner cartridge indicator... 

The folks at Brother stopped providing support when I told them I was using a third-party toner cartridge ($17 vs. $81!) . Does it really make a difference?

Any suggestions? My partner thinks I should simply buy a new printer, but I'm loath to dispatch yet another electronic device to the electronic graveyard!
