[Hidden-tech] Software for an eWorkbook

A Word or Adobe fill-in form will keep the data, but as Shel points out,
they are not relational, though they are searchable. You could build a
database in Access with a fill-in form, then distribute it as a run-time,
which I believe would be royalty free and legal. The key is what does the
colleague want to do with the data? Simply store it? Combine it with other
persons' data for analysis, comparison, etc.? Use it to populate a merged
marketing plan? Will this be used on Macs and PCs? (No Access on Macs).

Microsoft InfoPath will let you create a fill-in form that stores data in
Excel, Access, SQL, or XML, but you need a run-time version of InfoPath to
distribute it and you have the same PC-only limitation.

More information would be helpful.

Microsoft had some 'access' based solutions for the kind of scenario you
have described.

Dear Wise Ones,

I have a colleague who is writing a marketing plan workbook. One of his
options is to publish electronically. He's looking for software that
includes a database that will allow users of the book to fill in, retain and
cross reference entries. Any suggestions?

As ever, thanks in advance.
