I would suggest TrueCrypt - encrypt a folder containing the data and then
burn the encrypted folder to disc.

It's stronger encryption that most of the password protected zip options
available, and is free/open source so you can ensure that the recipient can
decrypt the data when they receive it without having to purchase something.

I can't tell you how many 'protected' zip files I have been asked
(legitimately, by business folk who owned the right to look into the files)
to break open, and how few of them resisted for any length of time.
