[Hidden-tech] file encryption sw

I use GPG (GNU Privacy Guard) which will run on most platforms and is free:

Password protected zips don't sound like a very good idea to me.

When doing any sort of encryption, there's really no easy way. You have to
"read the manual" and understand how the system works so that you don't do
something that renders it pointless. For example, with GPG, if someone gets
hold of your private keys (simply stored in your home folder by default)
they can decrypt anything sent to you if they just crack your password,
which is getting very easy these days.

To properly encrypt a file that someone may be able to sit around and try to
crack at their leisure you need to use a really serious password with upper
and lower case letters, symbols, at least 13 characters, etc.
