It probably depends on your security needs, basic Zip password protection is
not very good (you can search for cracking software).  There are commercial
products that build on that though, we looked at one called SecureZip at one
point, it includes public/private key encryption by certificate if you need
to be more careful than just a password can give you.

It's probably even better than TrueCrypt (which I suggested earlier without
thinking about it too much) for passing data back and forth, but it's not
free.  You might want to also look into other PGP based encryption
solutions.
