Hi Dan, Disclosure: I am the Shelburne Delegate to Wired West and I believe that Great Auk and similar services are no more than stop-gaps on the way to deployment of true high speed service via Fiber Optic network. Great Auk did a presentation here in Shelburne Falls during the winter. I did a little research about Great Auk and found links to various news stories. Most of them indicate a history of overpromising and underdelivering. There is definitely a trail of disappointed towns in Vermont in their past. It's a radio techology, like cellular date or WiFi. The problem with it for most places in the hills is that it has trouble with hills and trees, both of which we possess in abundance. They claim they can finesse the difficulties with technology. That being said, if you have no options other than dial-up or satellite "broadband", then Great Auk may be the best solution possible at this time.
