Hi Roger, My company AssetData is a local company that provides Data backup and recovery services. We have successfully recovered data for our local clients from all but the absolute most stubborn drives. We have a very good success rate and you don't have to ship the drive (which could cause more harm to the data) or pay thousands of dollars that some other company's charge. No, we are not equipped with a completely sterile clean room to rebuild the drives, but 99% of the time data can be recovered without going to those extremes. We have several methods of extracting data, bit-by-bit if necessary, to recover your files. A lot of times it is the circuit board on these newer drives that malfunction. One of our procedures allows us to swap these boards to get the drives working long enough to get the data off. Our evaluation fee is $49. Our prices for recovered data are on one of 3 tiers, either $199, $299 or $399, depending on how many hours are spent extracting data, plus the cost of a new drive to put the data on. Please let me know if we can be of service. I can come even to you to pick up the drive if necessary. What are folks' current recommendations for disc data recovery services? It's been years (think 1GB SCSI drives) since I needed this, and the landscape has undoubtedly changed dramatically.
