I had a great idea pop into my head and I want to bring it into reality as a new start-up business. However, I have a few questions about the name of the company. I did a Trademark Search in (TESS) and the name I selected is not there. However, how important is it to trademark the business' name in general? If the name of the business is generic such as "Cool Computers", is it even more important to trademark the name? I read that trademark lawyers could be extremely expensive, and I don't really have a lot of funds for that type of thing. I've been running a computer consulting business for 12 years now under my own name, but its so unique I'm not worried about someone trademarking it. This new start-up would be online and could compete nationally, so that is why I'm more worried about it. Also can anyone recommend any good guides for entrepreneurs? As I mentioned I've been in business for 12 years, but this new business is a totally different model, so I'm looking for resources that have helped other people.
