[Hidden-tech] audio cassette to mp3 or flac

Tom I also use a Griffin iMike with great success in terms of connecting
my old Sony dubbing deck (paid $700 for, now purchasable on eBay for $25) to
my computer via USB. It has both line level and microphone inputs and
includes a headphone monitoring jack. I think I paid about $35 for it.

If you are using a Mac, there is a fabulous audio editing utility called
³Fission² which allows for quick splitting, labeling and minor edits to
audio files. Unlike Audacity, Garageband and others, it does NOT convert the
file to a proprietary format and, it allows you to quickly save back in the
original format. It doesn¹t do filters and any other real editing except for
splits, joins, normalizing, fade in/out and level adjustments on selected
sections, but for initial edits it¹s great. And, because it¹s not converting
to a proprietary format, it can open a 1GB file in a few seconds try
doing that in any other program and you¹ll need to take a break and come
back.
