I have converted audio cassettes to .wav files using the built in sound
recorder in the accessories folder in Windows and converted the files
to .mp3 using free software I downloaded (like jet audio basic) from
cnet.com/downloads. It has worked well. I simply took the audio output from
my tape deck and connected it to my sound card input on my computer. You
may need a cable that changes the connector from RCA to mini-phone stereo.
There is some work involved with separation and naming of tracks but I
found it very inexpensive and of acceptable quality.
