[Hidden-tech] Disk imaging

Here's a link to a comparison of several disk imaging programs. The
review is a year old, but it's still quite relevant.

My own recommendation would be for Paragon Backup & Recovery. For
personal use, the free B&R ( http://www.paragon-software.com/free/ ) is
more than adequate, but if you need more flexibility, you can buy their
B&R Suite or their Hard Disk Manager. Paragon has a bewildering array of
hard disk imaging and management products, all of them compatible.

I used Acronis True Image for years and prefer its features and ease of
use, but my experience is that Paragon's products are simply much more
reliable, and that is the MOST important feature in imaging and backup.

Any external hard drive should work, but the bigger the better, and
forget about any included backup software. I like the Western Digital
Elements 1TB, which you can get for $70 from Newegg.com. It is a "green"
drive that goes to sleep after a period of inactivity and wakes up when
accessed, so you can just leave it plugged in and forget about it --
perfect for backups and imaging.
