not sure what projects you are working on - we pre-dated the kindle's with a Sony e-book, as well as now the iPad (although other non-local family member's have kindles) also have done a fair bit of experimenting with how to format text for both. The epub format works pretty well on all of them - and there are converters for text or pdf to ePub, for self 'publishing' - which we use heavily to get books from places like Gutenberg.org - not as needed now since they make available many books already in epub format. Pdf is pretty weak because it is designed for a fixed page format.
