Batchbook gets my vote of confidence. I use it all the time and like it a lot. And they're local (if you consider Providence, Rhode Island local. At least you'd be supporting a New England-based software company). Val, I haven't used it with MailChimp, but Batchbook has some pretty serious integration w/ MailChimp.

Also, for small-medium sized arts-culture organizations, if you have ticketed events, and are looking for a solution to handle ticketing and also CRM to keep track of all ticket buyers, donors, patrons, etc., you may want to check out Patron Technology's PatronManager CRM which runs on top of Salesforce. It's a free service for the organizations, and Patron Technology charges a small per-ticket service charge.

It has many/most of the customizable features of salesforce and really only lacks in some of the deeper coding, customization needs of a larger organizations. For instance zoho allows for the creation of up to 30 custom fields on each object even in the free version. The 12/user/month version allows up to 130 custom fields per object. It incorporates power features like work-flow rules as well.
