On the assumption that many Hidden Tech-ers are proponents of the "Buy Local" philosophy... There is an alert in the current issue of the magazine MaryJane's Farm to a new trend of "localwashing":

* Corporate giants encouraging consumers to buy local - at their nearest chain stores and malls

* Using farmers in commercials to position products as locally grown that aren't

* Removing corporate names from storefronts (Starbucks is reportedly beginning to do this)

* Co-opting the slogans, like Barnes & Noble launching a new site with the banner "All bookselling is local"

Yikes.
