Keri: If you are just beginning your database design, then MS Access is good cost effective place to start. It's a good place to prototype quickly and to begin deciding what you really need from the data you are collecting. Once you are comfortable and know what you may use for a 'front end', a web application, client application or just reporting then you can upsize the table to a more robust database like SQL Server or MySQL etc...
