Systems Developer

 

Pearson is an international media company with world-leading businesses
in education, business information and consumer publishing.  The
Evaluation Systems group of Pearson is an established local employer on
the forefront of developing and delivering high-stakes teacher
certification tests.  We are currently searching for a Systems Developer
to join our Technical Development team.  This individual develops,
tests, and modifies applications software to improve efficiency of
business operations, performs non-complex modification, testing, and
debugging tasks, maintains necessary documentation, and provides
technical guidance to others as may be appropriate.  The Systems
Developer works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of
situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors, exercises
judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine
appropriate action, and operates under moderate supervision.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

*            Perform design, development and implementation tasks

*            Assume responsibility for all aspects of application
support including analysis and documenting and coding software
application programs

*            Maintain and demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of
program definition, documentation and testing

*            Assist management in performing project estimates and
planning functions

*            Participate in code reviews to ensure quality,
maintainability, and adherence to standards

*            Function as trouble-shooter to investigate and correct
system and program defects

*            Participate in integration and system testing

*            Provide end-user/customer support on both internal and
packaged software applications 

*            Develop and maintain an understanding of business needs and
objectives to ensure timely responsiveness within assigned areas of
responsibility

*            Function as a team member and individually in performing a
full range of assignments

*            Manage multiple projects using organizational/planning
skills

*            Operate within defined standards and procedures

*            Prepare regular reports on all assigned activities as
required by supervisor

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

*         Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or
an equivalent combination of education and experience from which
comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.

*         Minimum 2-3 years experience in object oriented programming

*         Minimum 1-2 years experience in relational database technology

*         General knowledge of applications programming and analysis
procedures

*         General knowledge of object oriented programming languages
(C#, Visual Basic.NET, Java, C++ preferred)

*         General knowledge of web application technology (HTML, IIS,
ASP.NET, ASP preferred)

*         General knowledge of relational database technology (SQL
Server preferred)

*         Strong PC skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
products

*         Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

*         Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently under pressure

*         Excellent customer service attitude, communication and
interpersonal skills
