Those are MSRP, not real prices. There are two Zoom units, the H2 and H4n, which cost $139 and $293 respectively at Amazon. There is also the older original H4 which I have and which you probably still find for a bit less than the newer H4n. The main difference between the two units is that the H4 has two built-in condenser mikes and two external inputs which can accept balanced XLR input or unbalanced 1/4" phone plug, a nice versatility option that lets you plug in instruments or mikes, or as I often do, take a feed off the "Tape Out" on a sound board. The H2 by contrast has four built-in mikes but no external inputs. It's smaller and more compact and has the 1/4" tripod screw built-in to the bottom. If you don't need the external inputs, the H2 is a great way to go. Both units will record 2 or 4 channel. The H2 can also be placed in the center of a group because it's pickup pattern is close to 360 degrees with the four mikes. I think the H4 has better mikes though and the external input ability is essential for what I use it for.
