Hi Val, Sorry about your server getting cracked. It looks like your site is back up as of this time. At least they moved it to another IP so it could be up while they work(ed) on the problem. I have a client whose site was offline for more than 2 weeks while the hosting company struggled with cleaning up the affected server. So I think you're pretty lucky to be up. Intrusions certainly are a risk on shared servers since you can't control what the other site owners are doing. Hopefully Bluehost is keeping up with the necessary server software patches on their end, though they do claim to host over 1 million domains. Site owners — especially small businesses without a technically qualified webmaster devoted to site management — tend to fall behind on keeping up-to-date with upgrades to their site scripts, which are an ongoing thing. Those are the sites that get cracked. I remind my shared-hosting clients to stay on top of their updates or I do it for them. $30/year for your own IP seems pretty low if it gives you that security you need to stay up and running.
