[Hidden-tech] artist portfolio website tools?

Val:

EmptyEasel.com is somewhat of a "Consumer Reports" and e-zine for
selling art online. It is not a website development tool.

The other sites are template sites of one type or another that take
either a small or larger % cut of your sales depending if you utilize
the free or paid version of their service.

For 2-D visual art, most are associated with a print house that allows
the customer to immediately purchase reproductions of originals at any
size, on may mediums - and some will frame and mat the work if the
customer wants, giving the artists a small cut of the value-added
products/services sold. The website is responsible for fulfillment on
these orders, the artist fulfills purchase of original art. The artist
does not usually need their own online payment merchant account.

Many of these turnkey sites can serve as artist websites or can be
graphically modified to match an existing site to be used only as an
ecommerce portal.

I may be doing the Online Selling Opportunities for Artist survey class
at the Jones library in Amherst sometime this year. I'll keep you posted.
