[Hidden-tech] Ack... Palm died... your experience / thoughts on Droid?

None of this back and forth answers David's other age-old question: the
data fee. No way around that one, whether you go with a Google OS, Palm OS,
Blackberry OS or iPhone OS. It always comes back to the increased monthly
cost. I think you have to find a provider that offers the best service for
the money (however you make that calculation) and then go with the
smartphones that they offer. I'm with Sprint, and while that's not for
everybody, they cut me a monthly break because I'm with a local credit
union. Other carriers may also have incentives like this, but you'll just
have to shop around.

Just so you know, Google has a new version of their operating system out
(2.0, I think. Or maybe it was 2.1, my brain is fuzzy on that one) that is
not yet available on all the current phones. But it should be more stable
than the old 1.x on many of the current crop of phones. If I were switching
over right now (and I will be shortly), I'd probably go to Google OS
(Android) phone, although I would also consider one of the Blackberry phones
as well. I would consider an iPhone, but I'm not switching to AT&T.
Coverage and cost are not quite aligned enough for my taste.

One other thing to think about when moving to a smartphone is replacement
insurance. It was invaluable to me with my current phone. It cost a little
bit of money, but I would have had to purchase a whole new phone when the
old one died - something I didn't want to have to do.

Of course, you could always go to another PDA, which would eliminate the
monthly charges. If that's the case, why not get the iPod Touch? That way
you can have the iPhone without the phone, for the most part.

Just my thoughts.

Frank
