I'm posting a general request her for anyone who might be traveling to Lusaka, Zambia. I've been working with an NGO there for some time and we are looking for someone who might be willing to take an extra bag piece of luggage containing laptops with them as an additional piece of luggage. The bag/box would weigh no more than 80# and we would pay the "extra baggage" fee, which is usually around $80, as well as provide detailed documentation of the contents (used laptops and peripherals). We could arrange for you to be met at the airport so you wouldn't have to take it any farther than that. The cost of shipping this same box via FedEx is around $900 which seems like such a waste even though we have a donor who is willing to pay it. I'd like to see that kind of money put to better use if we can. This is a standing need, so if you find yourself headed to southern Africa a year from now we will likely still have things to send, please check in with me. There is also, by the way, an established program to send 80# luggage bags of medical supplies to the Zambian Flying Doctors, a group that uses small planes to get to remote villages, so if you want to carry more than one extra bag you can do that as well.
